Engr. Eugene Esparcia, Jr.’s work on ammonium tetravanadate as cathode material for magnesium-based battery was published in Chemistry of Materials (IF = 9.477) last May 10, 2018. The published paper is entitled “Ammonium Vanadium Bronze (NH4V4O10) as a High-capacity cathode material for Nonaqueous Magnesium-ion Batteries”. His co-authors include Mr. Munseok Chae and Dr. Seung-Tae Hong from Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) and his adviser Dr. Joey Ocon. The paper hopes to expedite the commercialization of magnesium-based battery as an alternative to current lithium-ion battery technology.
Engr. Reynaldo Geronia’s work on ab initio calculation of halogen-doped graphene using density functional theory (DFT) was published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (IF = 4.299) last August 2, 2018. The published paper is entitled “Monatomic oxygen Adsorption on Halogen-substituted Monovacant Graphene”. His co-authors include Dr. Allan Abraham Padama from University of the Philippines – Los Banos, Dr. Po Abel Chuang from University of California – Merced, Ms. Julie Anne Del Rosario and Dr. Joey Ocon (adviser) from University of the Philippines – Diliman. The paper hopes to elucidate theoretically the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process in the material, crucial for the development of fuel cells.
