Project CIPHER has recently published its first hydrogen policy brief, titled “Balancing Hope and Hype on Hydrogen’s Role in the Philippine Energy Transition,” in the SciEnggJ Journal on June 13. This publication also marks LEE’s first paper in a homegrown international journal.
The publication was a collaborative effort among research fellows— Honesto Ovid Tubalinal and Jaira Neibel Bamba, and project staff— Dr. DJ Donn Matienzo, Asst. Prof. Michael Castro, Atty. Paul Heherson Balite, Asst. Prof. Julie Anne Paraggua, and Prof. Joey Ocon.
In this paper, the team presents a comprehensive analysis of the opportunities that hydrogen offers for the Philippines' energy transition. By positioning hydrogen as a key energy vector across the industrial, power, and transportation sectors, they highlight its potential as a sustainable solution in the country's efforts to combat climate change and transition toward cleaner energy sources. This policy brief serves as a roadmap for addressing the energy challenges and capitalizing on the opportunities presented by hydrogen in the country. It also provides valuable insights to readers of the journal and contributes significantly to the ongoing discourse on sustainable energy transitions.
