Mr. Jazer Jose Togonon, Ms. Desiree Mae Sua-an, and Ms. Julie Anne del Rosario attended the 2018 PAASE Meeting held in Quezon City at UP Diliman National Institute of Physics last October 24 to 25, 2018.
The conference theme is “Volunteerism to Promote Philippine Science, Engineering and Innovation”. In the conference, different speakers presented various aspects of “Frontier Strategies and R&D Applications as Showcases of Success” including Dr. Rigoberto Advincula’s “Advanced Materials and the Philippine Engagement: from Sensors and 3D Printing” and Dr. Christopher Monterola’s “Artificial Intelligence and Information Science.”
Ms. del Rosario presented her research “Influence of Cations in Electrolytes on Oxygen Evolution Reaction in Alkaline Media” which looked into the effect of cations in alkaline electrolyte on the OER activity of IrOx catalyst which can contribute to the design of more efficient water electrolyzers and carbon dioxide reduction technologies.
Ms. Sua-an presented her research “Active and Stable Metal-free Halogen-doped Graphene Electrocatalysts for Alkaline Fuel Cells” which focused on the synthesis of Br- and I-doped graphenes as an alternative for Pt-based catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction.
Mr. Togonon presented his research “Electrode Combination Selection for Biodegradable Primary Batteries” which considered promising candidate materials for biomedical transient electronic devices by considering biocompatible metal oxides and metals that exist as trace elements in the human body.
