Last September 12 to 14, 2016, the UP Laboratory of Electrochemical Engineering (LEE), together with the CHED-PCARI GREEN POWER Program, facilitated the UP Electrochemical Energy Storage Workshop which was held at the Audio Visual Room of the National Engineering Center, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. The participants consisted of faculty members and graduate and undergraduate students of the UP System. While most of them are from UP Diliman, some came all the way from Baguio and Los Baños.
The main goal of the workshop was to make the participants knowledgeable on the foundational concepts and applications regarding electrochemical energy storage technologies and the role of energy storage in renewable energy integration. The three-day workshop was comprised of lectures focusing on energy storage and electrochemistry, battery chemistries and technologies and fuel cell systems, technologies and applications, which
were delivered by the experts in their respective fields. Aside from the lectures, hands-on activities were also prepared to give the participants a feel of the applications of the aforementioned systems and technologies.
Another workshop will be held on October; only this time, the target participants will be young engineers, researchers and technologists from all over the Philippines. By doing so, the program seeks to increase public awareness of these technologies in the country and to attract young scientists and engineers to pursue careers in research and industry related to energy storage.
