The Laboratory of Electrochemical Engineering (LEE) is one of the youngest laboratories in the Department of Chemical Engineering of University of the Philippines – Diliman. It is established last August 2014 by Prof. Joey Ocon and Asst. Prof. Julie Anne del Rosario of the Department of Chemical Engineering. The research laboratory mainly focuses on the development of electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems.
Initially, the laboratory started with ten people: two laboratory co-heads, two group heads, and six undergraduate senior students. The first research groups in the laboratory are the Fuel Cells Group and CO2-to-Fuels Group. Fuel Cells Group is headed by Myron Alcanzare, an instructor and M.S. ChE student at the Department of Chemical Engineering. Under him are the senior undergraduate ChE students Andrew Sia, Jennifer Marquez, and Arianne Saludares with the topic Electro-oxidation of Ethylene Glycol for Fuel Cells. CO2-to-Fuels Group is headed by Ralph Reiniel Luzadas, another M.S. ChE student of the same department. Electroreduction of Carbon Dioxide to Formate is the research topic of the undergraduate students Marlon Mopon Jr., Bianca Christina Alba, and John Carl Camayang under him.
